Carlo Bianchini, currently Associate Professor in LIS at the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage of the University of Pavia (2010–), is a noted scholar of Ranganathan’s school of thought. Ranganathan’s Colon Classification was introduced by Prof. Bianchini at the Friulian Museum of Natural History, in Udine, Italy, where he worked as a librarian from 2000 to 2010. He is a regular contributor to the top-ranked LIS journals and a member of the editorial boards of “JLIS.it” and “AIB Studi” He is an active member of the Italian chapter of International Society for Knowledge Organization (ISKO) and served on the cataloguing commission of the Italian Library Association (2005–2011) as an active member. His current research interests include Knowledge Organization and faceted classifications, cataloguing, Linked Open Data (LOD), and Wikidata, as well as information literacy and user studies. His recent contribution in developing a “CCLitBox” as an automatic colon class number generation tool in the WikiData environment has piqued the interest of LIS professionals all over the world.
